How K-Electric calculates your bill

K-Electric uses an incremental (telescopic) slab system — units fall into successive bands, and each band is billed at its own per-unit rate. Above this, NEPRA-notified FPA, QTA, Electricity Duty, 17% GST, income tax (for non-filers), PTV fee and meter rent are added. The total is your monthly payable amount, due within 14 days of the bill date.

Worked example — 350 units, unprotected

  1. First 100 units × Rs. 23.59 = Rs. 2,359
  2. Next 100 units × Rs. 30.07 = Rs. 3,007
  3. Next 100 units × Rs. 34.26 = Rs. 3,426
  4. Final 50 units × Rs. 39.15 = Rs. 1,958
  5. Energy charge = Rs. 10,750 (before FPA, ED, GST, PTV, meter rent)

Tips to lower the estimate

  • Stay under 200 units to lock in protected-consumer rates.
  • Use heavy appliances off-peak (after 10:30 PM).
  • Replace incandescent bulbs with 9W LEDs — saves up to 85% on lighting load.
  • Service ACs every season — a clogged filter raises consumption 20–30%.
  • Consider KE net metering for 50–80% long-term savings.
